To celebrate Arvo Pärt’s 90th birthday, the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and Concerto Copenhagen present an extraordinary concert at St. Peter and Paul’s Church in Görlitz. Under the direction of Grammy-winning conductor Tõnu Kaljuste, they perform works by the world’s most renowned and widely performed living composer.
Hailed by the international press as “charismatic and dynamic,” Tõnu Kaljuste is recognized as one of the world’s leading conductors in the choral and orchestral field. As the founder of the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir (EPCC), he has been a long-standing artistic partner and passionate advocate of Arvo Pärt’s work.
Arvo Pärt’s music has played a pivotal role in uniting Europe’s spiritually defining forces. His compositions draw upon traditions from Eastern Orthodoxy, Roman Catholicism, and Protestantism, creating a dialogue that enriches all. Through his music, Pärt has bridged aesthetics, ethics, and spirituality, bringing elements of Eastern musical traditions into Western concert halls and making them accessible to a broad audience.
Görlitz, Germany’s easternmost city, similarly embodies a connection between East and West. Against this backdrop, the Lausitz Festival – Wuměłstwowy festiwal Europy – has been presenting exceptional programs since 2020. The culturally rich region of Lusatia, spanning Brandenburg, Saxony, and the Polish borderlands, is a true melting pot of cultures.
