Born in the city of Speyer (South Germany) in 1971, Günter found his way into films via music. During his schooldays he was successful in the Jugend musiziert music competition and played in various orchestras and bands. After leaving school, he first trained as an industrial sales manager with BASF SE before joining the team running a renowned Mannheim recording studio. Alongside his studies (musicology, psychology and economics at the University of Oldenburg) he started making a number of short films, writing the music for some of them himself. After an internship with EuroArts Music in Berlin, he was working as floor manager, chauffeured Sir Peter Ustinov through Leipzig and only six months later directed his first full-length documentary “Sexo Puro – The Spanish Composer Maria de Alvear“ (WDR, SWR, ARTE).
Since then, Günter has directed and authored a large number of documentaries, some of which have been awarded a variety of prizes, including ”Soulscapes - The Choreographer Uwe Scholz“ (Fipa d’Argent, etc.). As a producer he has also been responsible for many outstanding concert productions and opera recordings worldwide.
