Homage to Pierre Boulez on Occasion of his 85th Birthday
Concerning to the 85th birthday of the famous composer, conductor and music theorist Pierre Boulez the Berlin state opera “Unter den Linden” devoted an extraordinary Homage.
This concert took place at the 4 April 2010 and enlarges upon the longstanding collaboration between Pierre Boulez and the state opera. The program contains three of Boulez’ best known works from three different decades: Members of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra were led by Daniel Barenboim in the opening Messagesquisse and the composer conducting Anthèmes 2 and Le marteau sans maître. To have Daniel Barenboim as concerto soloist, with another conductor, is now a relatively uncommon occurrence, but Barenboim’s partnership with Boulez dates back to the early 1960s. Hilary Summers as soloist and the members of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra made this performance even more brilliant.
