Accentus Music documentary of John Cage honoured by ICMA 2013

Accentus Music is delighted to announce that its production of John Cage - Journeys in Sound by Oscar-winning director Allan Miller and Paul Smaczny has won the 2013 International Classical Music Award in the ‘DVD Documentaries’ category.

2013 will be the second year in a row in which Accentus Music won an International Classical Music Award. In 2012, the Accentus Music production of Claudio Abbado and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra performing Mahler’s 9th Symphony was honored with an ICMA in the “DVD Performance” category.

Across the world, John Cage - Journeys in Sound received unanimous acclaim. The LA Times praised how the documentary “looks and sounds brilliant”. It was also awarded the “Best Documentary” award at the Golden Prague Festival, with the jury describing it as “a brilliant, intimate tribute to one of the most influential artists of the 20th century”. The documentary was also given five stars and described as a “fascinating, eloquent DVD” by the Financial Times.

John Cage - Journeys in Sound combines rare archival footage with concert excerpts and a series of interviews with former associates of Cage. Those featured include Merce Cunningham, Yoko Ono, Wolfgang Rihm, Steffen Schleiermacher and David Tudor. The documentary features subtitles in German, English, French, Japanese and Korean.
The award ceremony and the Gala concert with ICMA winners will take place in Milan on the 18th March 2013. The ceremony begins at 18.30 at the Auditorium di Milano Fondazione Cariplo and the Gala concert is scheduled to follow at 20.30. This concert will be performed by the Orchestra LaVerdi and conducted by John Axelrod.
